Municipal Drinking Water

Safe and accessible drinking water starts with effective, regulated treatment of source water. De Nora filtration, disinfection*, oxidation technologies – from basic gravity filters to advanced oxidation processes – have been ensuring the safety of our communities for decades.

With groundwater and surface water sources increasingly challenged by population growth, climate change, and stormwater and industrial runoff, ensuring public access to safe drinking water is driving new innovations in treatment technologies. More stringent drinking water regulations address issues that didn't exist even one generation ago, including nutrient pollution, micropollutants, and contaminants of emerging concern (CEC).  Perchlorate, chlorate, TTHM, bromate and other disinfection byproducts (DBPs) that can result from disinfection residual need to be prevented or addressed. Aging infrastructure is of particular concern in the U.S., causing lead, copper and other contamination in the distribution system.

From traditional treatment options like deep bed filtration and gas chlorine disinfection systems to advanced oxidation technologies that remove micropollutants, De Nora is committed to innovation in safe drinking water. By combining technologies for advanced treatment, improving products for water and energy efficiency, and developing more intuitive and intelligent solutions, we are always improving the treatment process for use – and reuse – of our limited water supply.

Adsorption and Trace Contaminant Removal

Arsenic, nitrate and other contaminants can be removed simply and easily with SORB Trace Contaminant Removal systems.  For more advanced treatment of organic contaminants and Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CEC) Advanced Oxidation (AOP) or Advanced Biological Filtration may be a great fit.  De Nora can help identify the best process for your needs.

Advanced Oxidation

Advanced Oxidation Processes produce highly energetic free radicals that can destroy a wide variety of difficult to remove organic contaminants by converting them to carbon dioxide and water.

Biofilm Control

If you are struggling with controlling biofilm in your distribution system, you need a stronger disinfectant that is capable of removing and controlling it.  De Nora has two ideal solutions.  MIOX systems produce Mixed Oxidants, which is a chlorine-based disinfectant proven to remove biofilm.  Chlorine Dioxide generators are another proven method to help with this tenacious issue.

Water Oxidation and Disinfection

Whether you need to oxidize iron, manganese and other contaminants, or you need to maintain chlorine residual for distribution system protection, De Nora has a full suite of products that provide the best combination of safety, effectiveness and whole life cost.

Filtration

Filtration to remove particulate or precipitated contaminants is critical to making clean water for drinking or process water.  For certain applications, the water needs to be treated further to remove TDS either for salt reduction or to produce particularly high quality water.  De Nora has a full selection of filtration components to complete your treatment process.

Intake Water Treatment/Preoxidation

Chlorine dioxide provides a unique solution to certain water treatment challenges.  In addition to gaining disinfection credit, chlorine dioxide is also a strong oxidant.  Combined with the fact it does not tend to react with organic contaminants, it is an ideal pretreatment chemistry, gaining you disinfection credits without the risk of increasing disinfection byproducts.  Can be used in combination with traditional sources of chlorine for final disinfection as well.

Instrumentation

Monitoring pH, temperature, chlorine residual and other parameters is often key to controlling your process or optimizing efficiency and performance.  MicroChem® systems  are available in multiple configurations for easy customization, and are simple to install, set up, and configure.

Let us know how we can help you meet your water treatment needs. We are happy to assist.
