Milan/Cernusco sul Naviglio, December 16, 2022 – Industrie De Nora S.p.A. has submitted a request to the Municipality of Cernusco sul Naviglio to express its prior opinion on the feasibility of a new production hub for the urban regeneration of a disused industrial area south-east of the Cernusco sul Naviglio area currently owned by a private company, with whom negotiations for the purchase are ongoing.
The Municipal Council, which met on 16 December, with its own act of address, assessed the proposal for the new production site as being of public interest, and mandated the Municipality's Technical Sector Manager to carry out all the necessary activities to follow up on the company's requests.
The new site will host the 'Italian Gigafactory' project, which aims to produce electrolyzers for the generation of green hydrogen through the electrolysis of water and the production of components for fuel cells, used in the production of energy without CO2 emissions.
Subject to the successful outcome of the authorization process, which will take place over the next few months, construction work on the Gigafactory is expected to start in the second half of 2023.
